Margaret Frothingham is an illustrator and author based in Northampton, MA. She holds a BA in studio art and English from Wheaton College and a dual MA/MFA degree in children’s literature and writing for children from Simmons University. She mainly writes picturebooks and middle grade fiction. Themes and topics important to her include disability, gender, child agency, queer identity, and body image. Among others, she looks to work by Isabelle Arsenault, Kate DiCamillo, Jan Brett, Marla Frazee, and Jacqueline Woodson for inspiration.
She is fortunate to have spent two summers at the Milkwood Residency for children's book creators, where she worked on her many projects under the auspices of Sophie Blackall and Ed Schmidt. In all of her creative pursuits, Margaret asks viewers to take a second look.
Margaret currently works at the Yiddish Book Center, where she manages education programs.
